Lightweight cement composites containing end-of-life treated wood – Leaching, hydration and mechanical tests

چکیده

A huge amount of treated wood waste containing hazardous substances is produced every year all over Europe that simply ends up in landfills. In this study, the authors investigate practical feasibility using end-of-life for producing innovative lightweight cement composites. For purpose, from four different sources was characterised to assess presence leaching and ascertain physical properties relevant production Afterwards, pastes containing, firstly, extractives, later, particles were prepared compatibility between Portland binder. To improve wood-cement compatibility, additional tests carried out extracted chemically particles. The results discussed terms hydration heat mechanical properties. Finally, a concrete mix selected preliminary examination effect on reference concrete. show concentration can vary significantly depending source waste. Small variations found profile composites 10 %(w/w) particles, contrasting with significant reduction compressive strength. mixes further incorporation reduces performance hardened material, though such still be used applications low-structural requirements.

Relative leaching and aquatic toxicity of pressure-treated wood products using batch leaching tests.

Size-reduced samples of southern yellow pine dimensional lumber, each treated with one of five different waterborne chemical preservatives, were leached using 18-h batch leaching tests. The wood preservatives included chromated copper arsenate (CCA), alkaline copper quaternary, copper boron azole, copper citrate, and copper dimethyldithiocarbamate. An unpreserved wood sample was tested as well....

Hexavalent Chromium Leaching from Cements and Cement Composites

Chromium is one of the 25 most widespread elements in the Earth’s crust and occurs as an indelible non-volatile trace element in raw materials used in cement clinker production (clay, limestone and iron additives in particular). Chromium in raw materials mentioned above is mainly in form of trivalent chromium. Naturally occurring chromium (III) is not initially harmful, since it is chemically s...

Preservative leaching from weathered CCA-treated wood.

Disposal of discarded chromated copper arsenate (CCA)-treated wood in landfills raises concerns with respect to leaching of preservative compounds. When unweathered CCA-treated wood is leached using the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP), arsenic concentrations exceed the toxicity characteristic (TC) limit of 5mg/L in most cases. The majority of discarded CCA-treated wood, howeve...

Polymer-Cement Composites Containing Waste Perlite Powder

Polymer-cement composites (PCCs) are materials in which the polymer and mineral binder create an interpenetrating network and co-operate, significantly improving the performance of the material. On the other hand, the need for the utilization of waste materials is a demand of sustainable construction. Various mineral powders, such as fly ash or blast-furnace slag, are successfully used for the ...
